Why Wrestling?

Organized wrestling positively impacts the competitors, schools, & community that they’re involved in. Our number one goal is to have fun & teach new skills that can translate into life & other athletics.

Wrestling does not discriminate:  We have a strict anti-bullying policy & firmly enforce the respect of all our athletes- regardless of age, sex, gender, ethnicity, race, religion, or any other forms of possible discrimination.

Nobody is left behind: Size does not factor as an advantage because every athlete is in their own weight class. Athletes are always competing on an even playing field.

Areas of benefit for the competitor include:

  • Increased physical fitness
  • Athletic development
  • Knowledge of body & health
  • Appreciation for hard work
  • Positive self-esteem
  • Social skills & respect

Everyone Can Do it!

With wrestling, everyone has the opportunity to participate! There are no expensive equipment requirements so it is very economically feasible. You do not have to be a certain body size, unlike other sports that emphasize height and weight requirements, wrestling can be done by anyone. Both boys and girls are encouraged to participate and practice in the same room. (Males compete with males and females compete with females).

Alberta has had national champions weighing as little as 42kg to as heavy as 130kg (that’s 92lbs to 286lbs!). Wrestling is unique in the sense that it helps you to work better with your own body. Wrestling is also an excellent cross-training sport for other sports like rugby, football, hockey and any other sport that emphasizes balance or physical contact. In addition to this, wrestling is an excellent confidence-building sport.
